NEAFA Executive Pen: Your Needs Are Our Priority

By Bonnie Bargstedt, NEAFA Vice-President

It’s hard to believe summer is half over. Advertising for back to school has begun, stores have Halloween and Thanksgiving décor on the shelves. Businesses are scrambling to meet the needs of potential customers.

This has me thinking – What are the needs of our customers - our members? I’ve given a lot of thought to the needs of our current and potential members. Our Board members have discussed this in depth. Do we as NEAFA know those needs? Do we make our best guess and hope we are successful? Do members know that we welcome their input on everything we do?

As an organization that presents policy to our legislators, selects program topics for industry conferences and provides support to Cornell University we work hard to meet the needs of those we serve. NEAFA has developed relationships that give us a seat at the table with those who influence many of the challenges faced by Agriculture and Agribusinesses. While we believe we are aware of many of those challenges, there are some being faced that we may not be aware of.

Please know that your needs are important to us. We want to know when a new issue arises. You may think we are aware but let’s face it, as volunteers it is difficult to always have our finger on every issue that affects every member. A quick email to Sue, Charlie, Jenny or I – as well as to any of our Board Members will ensure that we have your issue in our sights.

I believe reminding folks that this is a priority will help encourage members to be more engaged. We have committees that need more members and suggestions for actions. Our next Board meeting is September 9. Send your ideas soon so we can discuss them as a team. Summer is whizzing by – noodle on this as you enjoy some time with friends and family.

We are all volunteers who believe Agriculture is worth fighting for. NEAFA is your organization. Let’s work together to make it all it can be.
